Port Vertical
690,00€ – 990,00€
Description
The city of Paris launched a call (2015) for innovative urban development projects for 23 sites across the city. Laurent de Carnière chose to transform the 40,000m2 Morland site, a former administrative building besides the Seine, into a Vertical Urban Port. This Vertical Port looks to reinvent the role of the river that lies at the heart of Paris.
“If we were to succeed in transforming the relationship between the water and the city, a new urban landscape would necessarily arise, one adapted to the needs of a society in a permanent state of flux and a transformed city.”
The water of the river is at the centre of this architectural proposition as a veritable energy that brings the building to life. At the top of this new port, a swimming pool offers a contemplative viewing spot from which to take in the whole of the historic city.
“The transformation of cities from the enormous parasites they are today into a virtuous and self-sustaining system will take time, but the revolution has to start somewhere.”
