North Bank
200,00€ – 300,00€
Description
North Bank realizes the potential of the Thames as an existing and natural piece of green infrastructure. It questions our continued vertical separation from the river and, by dissolving the river’s hard edge, establishes an immediate and direct relationship between the city and the river.
A foil to the rejuvenated but overcrowded south bank, the north bank forms a circular river walk joined by the Millennium and Hungerford footbridges. The architectural vocabulary of the Victoria Embankment, the wall and the promenade, is extended and intensified into a series of steps, planted terraces and walkways that act as a catalytic framework for new life to propagate; along the bank, on the river itself, and northwards through Embankment Gardens and up to the Strand. Space is created for varied scales of occupation, encouraging Londoners to rethink their relationship to the water.
