Description

Drawing by Théo de Meyer

A young couple bought a new home attached to an old flower shop.

A beautiful house where the previous architect conceived the structure with all kinds of concrete flower displays trough out the whole building. The garden hosts a greenhouse of 30m x 4m and searches connection with the bel étage floor of the house. The client approached us with the question: ‘what to do?’ and this question led to a 2 year study on living with a garden, objects and ornament. A search on restoring relationships in between the inside and outside, with respect to the existing and neighbouring houses.

We introduced a new staircase and within its axis a new garden wall, 190cm withdrawn from the border. Both are connected through a concrete beam, that serves as a structure for climbing plants. All connections are restored and by giving distance towards the neighbours, we provide them with more light and view than before. Therefor we all benefit. There are many juridical laws about party walls but the main outspoken rule is to act with friendship.
