Trash Halle

As part of a seminar in the winter semester 19/20 at the Tectonics in Timber Construction Department, 15 designs with the questionable topic of “supermarket” were created.
On closer inspection, the apparently unwieldy building type of the grocery store reveals facets that lead us to fundamental questions of architecture: manual work versus standardization, beauty versus functionality, expensive versus cheap.
The proposed usage concepts differ radically from conventional supermarkets. For example, one project offers second-choice vegetables, which are otherwise plowed at the end of the season. The hall could stand in the middle of the fields on the outskirts and only be accessible by bike. Its construction is reminiscent of a classic supermarket, but on closer inspection it is more of a barn.
In times of climate change and advancing technology, timber construction in particular provides a basis for a new aesthetic that is fed by prefabricated elements (post bases, nail plate trusses, ventilation pipes, etc.).
