Description

Drawing by Studio Delta

Built between 1681 and 1708, the Dôme des Invalides completes the entire Hôtel des Invalides wanted by Louis XIV to treat and honor his soldiers. Jules Hardouin-Mansart played with the codes of his time while sublimating them.  According to the classical rigor, two drums are placed on a pedestal and oriented along the diagonals of the building. It destabilizes the rigor of the whole. From a classical square pedestal, we yield to the curves and counter-curves of the drums and the dome, covered with trophies, fire pots and a lantern peaking at 107 meters high.
